VFD Panel
VFD Panel
Variable frequency drive (VFD) is a motor controller which vary the frequency and voltage of the motor, allowing the motor to ramp up or slow down depending on the needs.
- Save on energy consumption and improve efficiency of the system
- Eliminate hard start/stop on motor, reducing mechanical stress
- Match the demand of the system by varying the speed of the motor
- Reduce peak consumption to reduce peak-demand prices
Applicable Industries
- Medical
- Pumps and compressors
- Car wash
- Manufacturing processing
- Water booster system
- HVAC System
- Any motor application
Energy Saving Program
Depending on location, you may be eligible for energy saving program for this upgrade.
Examples of VFD application
Contactless claw pump creates vacuum by operating a motor which turn the 2 claws against each other. By using VFD, we eliminated the need for maximum start stop number by reducing the amount of torque stress on the motor coupling. As well, we save energy consumption by varying the speed of the motor to match the demand of the medical vacuum in the hospital.
Spindles and fan motor suffer failure by constant start stop as cars go by. Using VFD, we eliminated the stress on the motor by softening the starting of the motor. As well, VFD drive has network capability. This allows us to send the information to a SCADA system which communicate to service center of any motor issue using remote monitoring system.
In water booster system, the system needs to maintain a certain pressure of water column in the system. This is done by operating the water pump to pressurize the bladder tank to a certain pressure then allowing the bladder tank to maintain that pressure to the building. By using VFD, the bladder tank can be eliminated as the VFD will maintain the correct water pressure by varying the speed of the water pump.

How to Add VFD to My System
If you currently have any motor operation that you would like to add VFD to, here are a few options:
- Replace contactor and overload with a VFD - (soft starting only, not a full VFD operation)
- Replace control panel
- Add aux panel to your currently system
